I love hand sewing binding and discovered how well silk thread does with it. I am a big Aurifil thread fan. I use it for piecing, applique, and some machine quilting. But, I have found that silk thread doesn't fray at all and doesn't twist like cotton threads do. I got the silk thread from Joann Fabrics. They don't have a huge color selection, but the thread melts into the quilt.
Take care,
Cathy
Oh, it's adorable. I love meandering quilting - I think just the quilting texture makes a quilt look wonderful.
ReplyDeleteCarol's quilt with the smaller tumblers is very cute, as well.
Oh I like it a lot...I like those big tumblers. Very fun! I use hand quilting thread to stitch down my binding. I'll have to try the silk.
ReplyDeleteWow this is beautiful. Love the fabrics! I have never used silk thread before. I didn't know JoAnn's carried it. I will have to look to see if I can find some to try.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt Cindy. I always hand bind -- it's now my favorite part of the project.
ReplyDeleteI just use the same thread I piece with -- a 40 or 50 wt. Usually Mettlers. If I remember to thread the needle using the end directly from the spool (i.e., before cutting it) it won't ever tangle. Read that advice somewhere and it always works -- but I'll have to try silk thread. I'm always open for more tips... thanks!
