I have a lot of time on my hands and would like to make a little extra money. I thought about selling these boxes on Etsy. They would be custom of course. I was wondering if anyone has had experience with Etsy and do you think that monogramed boxes like these might sell?
I searched fabric boxes for sale and didn't see anything like these. This one is 4"by 4" but I usually make them 5"by 5". I have made then larger to keep quilt binding supplies in. I would love any input please.
Thank you,
I dont' have any experience with Etsy either Cathy, but my sister and I thought of getting into this once too.
ReplyDeleteBefore we jumped in we figured it might be wise to monitor a few sellers sites who are successful and buy a couple things to check their finished work. Not necessarily the same things we planned to make -- but items that were made with fabric. This way we could assess if our quality was up to theirs. A sample from several different sellers would be important -- ones who had consistent "good" feedback from buyers.
Anyway - that is one aspect of it and we eventually nixed the whole idea figuring it would be too much work.
Re: your boxes..if you go forward I would start by making several in a variety of fabrics with a general embroidered cover (like a flower or scroll work - etc). Something anyone could buy and then offer the initials as a special order.
I also noticed in our browsing steps (sis and I) -- lots of "modern" things out there -- seems to be a lot of sellers and clients in their late 20's early 30's who like Amy Butler type fabrics - for example. So maybe a few boxes in mod type fabrics..this way you are attracting shoppers from several generations. Maybe even some with no embroidered top. A mix like this might give you an idea if it's the fabric, the embroidery or a combination of both that buyers like most. Which would be good info to know should you decided to add other things to your store eventually.
Just some ideas.
I don't anything about Etsy Cathy, but your boxes are beautiful, I think you should go for it!
